In the second of our series focused on achieving Cleaner Greener Skin, we take a closer look at the benefits of cleansing and a few natural fruit ingredients that are effective cleansers.

The C word

C is for ‘Cleanse’ which is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine. This step usually involves using a facial cleansing product to remove makeup, oils, dirt, dead skin cells and other particles that can’t be left on the skin for too long. Doing this step daily helps to unclog the pores (by removing those pollutants) and keep the skin free of infections that could lead to skin issues like acne outbreaks.

There are different types of cleansers, formulated for different skin types, and using the wrong one can take your skin from bad (dry, patchy and dull) to worse.

Cleansers made for oily, acne prone skin are usually intense, the target result of the product is being able to remove oil and pore clogging properties. The Coconut Water Enriching Body Bar is highly recommended if you have oily skin. It gives a deep cleanse to remove impurities while giving your skin a healthy dose of nutrients. Regular use helps to control excess oil production and strengthen your skin. The coconut water, which is the major ingredient, gives your skin a healthy amount of Vitamin C and well needed anti aging benefits.

For dry or normal skin, the cleansers are usually creamier or more moisturizing. They are not as tough on the skin because these skin types don’t require that amount of intensity. The Mango and Papaya Enriching Body Bar is loaded with natural healthy oils and Vitamin A to provide cleaning and hydration for dry and normal skin. It also helps to tighten and tone the skin, working as a good anti aging product because it contains hydrating properties, it soothes skin irritation, redness and inflammation.

Although most cleansers are now water based (including all Calypso Glow body bars), there is still a possibility that the cleanser you use on a regular basis has been disrupting your skin’s pH level. Although it is not healthy, having your skin’s pH level out of balance is not uncommon. It can be disturbed by different things, including the skincare products you use. The best way to be sure that your skin’s pH level is always in balance is to use the right cleansing product for your skin type. Also, use a hydrating toner after cleansing. Toners are designed to return the skin’s pH to the right level, while removing any last trace of dirt that the cleanser didn’t get to.

The body bars mentioned above are free of sulphates, parabens, gluten and other unhealthy additives. The products are not tested on animals.
