3 Ways to Reinvigorate Your Winter Skincare Naturally

Hello Beauties! We hope that you've entered this month naturally glowing and brimming with a gorgeous winter glow!

Or perhaps you’ve got less celebratory things on your mind, like the effect of the winter’s dry air on your skin. At Calypso Glow, we know that no one has a constant skin-type. It can be influenced by internal and external factors from hormonal changes such as periods, pregnancy, and menopause to changes in the weather, exposure to sunlight or environmental pollution.

During the winter, we all battle winter skin issues such as dryness, flakiness, redness, oily patches, acne flares, and blotchiness. To keep your skin in its best condition, it is important that your skincare routine is designed to work against factors that could cause these issues. Skincare that deeply nourishes and hydrates should be an important part of your routine. Here are some tips to help keep your skin healthy and well hydrated through the winter season:

1. Exfoliate regularly

Cold and/or dry air may increase your level of dead skin cells leaving the appearance of flaky dry patches. Exfoliating is known to help remove that dull dead skin and reveal a natural healthy glow. The type of exfoliator that you use and how often you exfoliate should be determined by your skin's health. Though, most would recommend exfoliating twice a week. If you are not used to exfoliating, you'll appreciate the natural purifying properties of salt. Salt can have a drying effect so you need to give your skin a constant blast of hydration. Luckily, our body scrub has the skin nourishing benefits of coconut oil and coconut milk which make it creamy in texture and skin-lovingly hydrating.

2. Use hydrating products

One of the best hydrating properties for dry skin is coconut milk. It is very soothing and moisturizing especially for those suffering from itchy, flaky and dehydrated skin. Our Nourishing Body Wash Milk is a gentle non-foaming cleanser that is great for all skin types. Coconut milk is known to improves skin elasticity, which is a priceless anti-aging benefit. We suggest that you stay away from products containing alcohol, skin astringents and chemicals, which can be very drying to the skin. Using drying products can cause major skin issues such as acne outbreaks and redness so stock up on hydrating coconut milk.

3. Take off your makeup using coconut oil

Because we are trying to avoid drying products, the best option for makeup removal is oil. Coconut oil is very mild on the skin but will also take off your makeup completely, especially in sensitive areas like your eye area. Using the oil generously will also give you skin deep moisturization. Note: If coconut oil does not work well on your face, use alternative carrier oils like jojoba oil.

Apart from the topical moisturization you do after a shower remember to keep a smaller tube of moisturizer in your purse. Reapply your moisturizer on those parts that are usually more exposed to keep your skin soft and healthy. Also, it is very easy to forget to drink water when the climate is much cooler and we are perspiring a lot less. However, it is still important to do it for your skin and body in general. Drinking water regularly helps to flush out toxins from your body. It also keeps your skin hydrated from the inside out which is as important as your skincare.
